Norm Eder photographed two recording sessions in March 2025 that led to the creation of "Let the Good Times Roll", a powerful tribute to the master, Ray Charles.

Many of Portland's top musicians at the time were assembled by Amy Maxwell and Patrick to bring the project to life, as Amy Maxwell describes it, “on a whim.”

The recording sessions were an amazing moment. Norm remembers the artistic joy and camaraderie he saw the studio. Two decades later this spirit is revealed in his images, which have survived software transitions and hard drive crashes. Norm created the photographs using is first digital SLR camera – a Minolta.

A NORTHWEST TRIBUTE TO RAY CHARLES went on perform in various configurations in front of live audiences for the next two years. This included a fiery main stage show during the 2005 Waterfront Blues Festival. Norm was on hand to photograph that too.

While the majority of those who participated in the recording continue to thrill audiences with their music, Janice Scroggins, DK Stewart, Thara Memory,  Paul deLay, Linda Hornbuckle, Sweet Baby James Benton, and Tim Ellis are no longer with us and all are sorely missed.
